The Golf Committee will be posting a save-the-date calendar in January 2025, with all events opening for sign-up on April 1, 2025. Make sure to sign up early for your favourites such as the Men’s Ryder Cup, the Women’s Bayview Cup, the Pizza Open, and the Champagne Open. These events will sell out quickly.
A big shout-out to our team of golf professionals led by our Director of Golf, Mark Paterson, and Mike MacGillivray, our Director of Grounds and Agronomy. Our golf events and the amazing course conditions could not have happened without their dedication.
Enjoy the rest of the golf season.

See you on the course.

MESSAGE FROM THE
GOLF CHAIR

Wow! It’s September. Summers seem to pass by faster and faster. Thankfully we have another two months of fall golf ahead of us!

A very successful event calendar is coming to a close. Thanks to early sign-up and enthusiastic participation many of our perennial favourites were sold out. Thank you to all our golfers who supported our events or volunteered to be part of the planning.
Our fall calendar has only three events remaining for our Bayview golfers. Join us over the third weekend of September for our annual Member/Member event for both men and women. In October golfers can join the men’s and women’s Fall Field Day and wear their woollies for our annual Pumpkin Scramble. The hardest pin placements of the season and a chance to show off your putting skills!

Golf Take:

EVERY GOOD ROUND STARTS IN THE CLOSET…

Thank you for supporting the Bayview Professional Shop all season long. We’re always looking for the next big thing in golf fashion while keeping the shop stocked with many of your favourites. The brands that continue to perform well are Johnnie O, Adidas and everyone’s favourite, Vuori. We dipped our toe into some new areas this summer, featuring blazers, deck shoes and sandals. There’s lots of exciting new products on the way for spring 2025. As the temperature begins to drop, we hope that you’ll continue to patronize your Shop. Our retail team will be receiving and displaying fall apparel for both on and off the course.

Watch out for the newest colours and styles from Vuori’s fall lifestyle lineup, Bayview-branded comfy clothing from Levelwear and of course, sweaters and wovens from Johnnie O. New this year, we’re running a pre-order promotion on cashmere sweaters. Be sure to get your order in before Thanksgiving to ensure your holiday gift arrives on time. We will have a selection of colours and sizes to try on.

GOLF EVENTS AT BAYVIEW:

The Women’s and Men’s Committees work tirelessly in support of the Golf Committee throughout the winter to craft an event calendar that’s entertaining, engaging and competitive for players of all levels. We put a high level of importance on keeping our events fresh and fun as we realize that tee times are a valuable commodity at our busy club. If our events are struggling, we explore all options to enhance or alter formats to entice more participation. We’ve seen great success in recent years with the introduction of the Men’s Ryder Cup, Women’s Bayview Cup and tweaks to classic events like the Pizza Open. We’ve seen many new faces participate this season and we hope to continue that trend in 2025. At a great member club like Bayview, we look at events as an opportunity to build camaraderie and enhance our member experience. Our Tournament Calendar will be available in late-March, so we hope you circle a few of your favourites next summer.

junior GOLF

The state of junior golf at Bayview couldn’t be in a better place. It’s been wonderful to watch our great young players push each other to new heights through practice and play. Not too many days went by this summer without a small herd of youngsters crowding the practice green grinding through a series of four-foot putts or experimenting with creative ways to get up and down. We could all learn a few things from this group about the balance of practice versus play.

There’s no doubt that while practice may not make perfect, it certainly pays dividends. Several of our junior members are taking the next step in their golf careers, moving on to collegiate golf. Please join me in wishing the best of luck to the following freshman collegiate athletes:

  • Bridget Wilkie - Notre Dame

  • Ben DeCastro - Indiana University of Pennsylvania

And the next wave is on the way… our Junior Club Championship saw a bump in participation this summer. Of that crowd, three girls and four boys earned themselves invitations into the Club Championship through their stellar play. There’s lots of buzz amongst the Grade 11 and 12 students about polishing their golf resumes for college coaches in ’25 and ’26. Amongst the standouts is Eric Zhao, who recently committed to Princeton in 2025 and Tyler Bunker, who fought through a 5-hole playoff just last week to capture the four-day CJGA Mizuno Championship.

All of these superb young players had to start somewhere and there’s no better place than Bayview. Taylor has done a fantastic job expanding The Pathway Program, developing skills, learning the rules and testing the progression on a weekly basis. Michael Kim has done an excellent job growing our camps and developing new events with the help of Chris Ponikvar (Camp Coordinator) to keep both our novice players and young competitors engaged. The entire team of Junior leaders are excited for the addition of the new practice facility, opening in the spring. Looking forward to seeing our youngest Bayview members reach new heights in 2025.
